Hair Extensions Frequently Asked Questions

We’ve tried to answer the most common questions about hair extensions. If you want advice, then please get in touch and I’ll be happy to answer any specific questions, and give personalised advice via phone, WhatsApp or e-mail.

Will you be able to tell I'm wearing hair extensions?

If we’re doing our job right then no, it should not be obvious you’re wearing hair extensions.

A good hair extensionist should ensure attachments are subtle and extensions are blended into your natural hair. Expert colour matching at consultation, and the cut and finish following the initial fitting should ensure a natural result.

Our pre bonded keratin tipped bonds are small, flat and sit discreetly in the hair. Of course, if the wind blows or you tie your hair up in certain styles, you maybe able to see the odd bond, but your technician should leave your natural hair around your hairline, to cover the extension attachments.

Tape hair extensions are also near invisible these days. As hair extensions begin to grow out, they may become more noticable, or hiding them when styling your hair may become tricky. We therefore advise you have your extensions removed after 6-12 weeks, depending on the application method chosen.

How much do hair extensions cost?

You can add thickness to your hair from as little as £90, whereas a full head of length starts from around £300, and can exceed £500.

The price of hair extensions largely depends on whether you’re looking to thicken up fine or thinning hair or looking to achieve length.

The type of hair you choose, the colour, and the length, all contribute to the overall cost. Light blonde hair is more expensive than dark colours, and mixed or balayage shades can also be more costly. Visit our price list for more information or get in touch for a quote.

How long do hair extensions last?

Bonded hair extensions last 3 months, whereas tape extensions can need maintenance after 6 weeks.

We have some clients who have new extensions every  6 weeks, other last them 4-5 months. We recommend removal around 3-4 months, as the hair starts to grow down with your natural hair. For more information read our blog ‘How long do hair extensions last?’

Can I reuse the same hair?

Yes, many of our hair options can be reused multiple times, due to the high quality of the hair. In fact, we recommend clients reuse their extensions where possible, it’s better for the environment and your wallet. Not to mention it took someone years to grow that hair, it makes ethical sense to use it until the end of its life, when we go on to recycle the hair.

Our European hair is the best for re-use as it can be rebonded several times. Although more expensive up front, the cost then comes down for subsequent sets.

There are times when reuse is not advisable, for example if you opted for a basic range hair initially, where it’s not cost-effective to re-use the extensions, or when the hair has not been appropriately cared for. In these scenarios, we may recommend investing in new hair.

Will hair extensions damage my hair?

In my opinion, keratin pre-bonded extensions is one of the safest and most widely used application methods.

The bonds we use are made from keratin, this is a natural material, so wont cause allergies. However you are welcome to take advantage of our free Try Before You Buy service before commiting to hair extensions.

We fold our bonds flat around the hair, rather than fusing them into rice bonds. These are more discreet in the natural hair and are more comfortable to wear. Bonds and tapes are safe, as long as they are maintained and removed correctly by a professional.

Can I wash my hair as normal?

In a word, yes. Washing hair extensions is not too different to washing your natural hair, with a couple of exceptions. We recommend you shampoo your hair extensions as you would your normal hair, using your fingers to massage shampoo into the roots, between the bonds, and down through the length of the hair.

With conditioner however, you need to be careful to avoid the root where the bonds or tapes are attached. Conditioning over the bonds could cause shedding or slippage, resulting in the premature loss of the extensions hair, or bonds.

We recommend you gently towel-dry your extensions, being careful not to rub the hair, instead using patting motions to remove moisture from the hair. A deep-conditioning mask is recommended once a week, especially for those with blonde hair. Read our aftercare guidelines blog, or our 5 top tips for caring for your hair extensions.

Can I dye my hair extensions?

We recommend colour matching your new extensions to your natural hair during the consultation. It is not advisable to colour the extensions, as they’ve often undergone a colouring process already, and additional colouring can diminish the quality of the hair and dry it out.

All of our hair is 100% human hair, therefore it can be coloured if needs be. Many clients do colour their extensions, but we don’t recommend it if you can help it.

If you do decide to colour your hair extensions, always take advice from your stylist or salon, and ensure you give the hair additional conditioning treatments following the colour.

Can I have my roots done with hair extensions in?

Yes. We understand you may be wearing your extensions from 6 weeks to several months, therefore your colour appointment may be due during this time.

You can have your roots done, as there will be no or very few bonds or tapes placed within the T-section of your hair. We recommend avoiding the bonds as much as possible, as going over them with colour or bleach could break-down the bonds, causing the extensions to shed or slip.

Can I straighten and curl my extensions?

Yes! All of our hair is 100% human hair, so you can style your extensions exactly the same as you would your natural hair.

Like any hair, heat causes damage so we don’t recomment styling it every day. Many clients curl their extensions once, and they stay curled for several days.
